Hello, I am Goh Wei Xue, a student of Singapore Polytechnic currently taking the Diploma In Chemical Engineering, and I'll be using this platform to share with everyone my first-hand experiences throughout the Chemical Product Design and Development Module. Let's go!

2 goals that I have set for myself

The first goal that I have for myself would be to familiarize myself with the techniques and skills of CAD in Autodesk Fusion 360. I feel that I can utilize this platform to design and create many interesting results. Even though I may not be as masterful as my classmates, I hope that I can have enough practice to match their skill levels. With the aid of online tutorials such as Youtube videos and even other blogs, and more design practice including the keychain and phone stand that we have made, once I am able to easily navigate, design and construct, and an item using Fusion 360 shall I know that i have truly mastered the skill of utilizing Fusion 360 to the fullest. 


The second goal that I have for myself is to be able to improve my communication skills with my team members. In group projects, I always find myself unable to voice out my opinions due to myself thinking that they would probably be wrong or would have no impact on the topic at hand whatsoever. However, on a few occasions, I found that some of my opinions had actually turned out to be correct and would benefit our team as a whole, and that my teammates would be willing to hear me voice out my opinions when needed. Therefore, I should learn to give constructive feedback when needed and also communicate with my teammates better by actively participating in a conversation instead of watching in the sidelines. This way, we will be able to submit work of a higher quality and further improve our synergy within the group.

Arduino Programming For Arduino Programming, my class was tasked to accomplish 2 things. Firstly, each of us had to complete an individual competency test, and also write a code that would make the wings of a unicorn flap, and a bonus task of combining the flapping with something else.  To start off, my group used an "Sweep" example code provided by the Arduino Software, then tweaked it a little. We changed the Servo's initial position to from 0 to 10 degrees , changed the sweeping angles to go from 10 to 120 degrees and changed the degree increase rate to steps of 10 degrees . We also changed the delay when rotating anti-clockwise to 25ms, and  15ms when rotating clockwise. At first, we set it to have a slower flapping speed, but it was too slow by our lecturer's standards, so we increased it after. Our team's Chemical Device Our chemical device is a door handle sanitizer.  It aims to reduce the problem of high infection rates of Covid-19 through indirect contact by an infected person. This can be through everyday objects that have been contaminated such as the door handle. Its function is to detect the hand on the door handle and spray hand sanitizer onto the door handle after a person lets go of the door handle. By doing so, it kills any bacteria or viruses on the door handle which in turns reduces the risk and reduces the rate of Covid-19 infections through indirect contact. 3D Printing

For our 3D Printing Session, our objective was to design an object that could not be made  Subtractively . After some failed brainstorming and searching online, I decided to follow this guide on Youtube, where he makes a cool looking pencil holder. This pencil holder cannot be made subtractively as cutting out the design along the curved surface of the pencil holder. Link to the video can be found here Step 1: From the Top view, sketch a circle with a diameter of 70mm. Step 2: Extrude the circle by 90mm to form a cylinder. Step 3:  Use the shell function to hollow the cylinder while leaving a 4mm gap. Step 4:  Create a Slot sketch and adjust its position where it is going to go on the pencil holder. Step 5:  Use the Emboss tool to emboss the slot design onto the cylinder. Step 6: Use the Circular Pattern Function to repeat the slot design all around the cylinder 10 times.
